Can Web3 apps truly enable chatting between wallets as seamlessly as texting friends?

Ongoing growth of SocialFi – fueled by hype around decentralized protocols like Farcaster’s social media platform – has us all buzzing about new possibilities. Yet, the reality of seamless cross-wallet direct communication has been more of a dream than reality – until now.

Enter Beoble, a game changer in decentralized instant messaging (IM) that is designed to bridge communication gaps between segregated blockchain wallets and identities.

Chatting from wallet to wallet: Overview of Beoble

At its core, Beoble is an infrastructure and ecosystem with a two-dimensional approach: Firstly, it’s a web chat app that’s compatible with most major wallets. Secondly, it’s a treasure trove of tools for developers, including APIs and SDKs, allowing Web3 developers to to weave social functionality and messaging right into their dapps.

And with more than 300,000 monthly active users, it’s clear they’re onto something big.

An overview of its offerings:

For users

  • Seamless Wallet Integration: Supports most crypto wallets for a streamlined login and truly native Web3 experience. This not only eliminates tedious account creation but also leverages blockchain security for decentralized identity management.
  • Cross-Wallet Chat: Beoble's web-based chat isn't confined by specific blockchains. This allows for truly interoperable communication – fostering a sense of collaboration and knowledge exchange across the decentralized landscape.
  • Customizable Social Profiles: Offers modular approach to building profiles. Users can choose which information they want to share (like wallet address or NFT holdings) and customize their profiles to reflect their unique presence in Web3 space.
  • Token-Gated Chatrooms: Allows creators to build exclusive communities by gating access to chatrooms based on NFT ownership or token holdings. This paves the way for discussions within like-minded groups and incentivizes participation through shared ownership.

For developers

  • Modular Messaging & Social Features: Instead of building messaging and social functionalities from scratch, developers can leverage Beoble's pre-built modules. This “plug and play” approach saves development time and resources, accelerating the overall process.
  • User Interface (UI) Integration: Integrating Beoble's functionalities seamlessly into existing dapps is made possible through API and SDK modules. This ensures a consistent and familiar user experience, minimizing disruptions for users transitioning from one dapp to another within the Beoble ecosystem.
  • Social Features: Adding social elements like profiles, chatrooms and community features can significantly enhance user engagement within dapps. This way Beoble allows developers to focus on their core application logic while streamlining user experience.
  • User Retention & Acquisition: Integrating social features allows for in-app interactions and communication within dapps. This in turn can lead to improved user retention and acquisition, and ultimately contributing to the overall success of dapps themselves.

Beoble’s team and architecture

At the helm of Beoble is CEO Sung Cho, whose background spans software engineering experience at Citadel, Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley, as well as entrepreneurial experience from founding Madboy Games.

Another key figure behind Beoble's launch is co-founder Jungwoo Yun, a seasoned software development startup veteran at companies like Donedogi.

This technical co-founding team, rounded out by engineer Chanhyeok Yim formerly of JPMorgan and HSBC, have driven recent platform momentum.

For instance, Beoble’s messaging layer uses a gossip mesh network to facilitate communication between users. In this type of network each node (user) is responsible for relaying messages to other nodes.

This creates a decentralized and fault-tolerant communication system.

Some of its key components include:

  • User Layer: Represents users of messaging dapps. They interact with applications through a client app or SDK.
  • Client Layer: Consists of client applications or SDKs used by users. These applications or SDKs connect to messaging layer and relay messages between users.
  • Messaging Layer: Routs messages between users. It uses a decentralized network of nodes to store and forward messages.
  • Wallet Layer: Manages users' wallets and identities. It allows users to securely store their private keys and digital assets.

Building on Beoble

Recent integration of Beoble's messaging infrastructure into OKX’s crypto wallet represents a step towards more seamless communication within web3. This integration allows users to chat directly within the OKX app and potentially simplifies communication about trades, collaboration and other cryptocurrency-related interactions.

Among notable partnerships is Flipster, a trading platform that connects investors with valuable insights.

Another noteworthy integration is with Lends, where Beoble's platform will be incorporated into the company's peer-to-peer lending overbook.

Ways developers can leverage Beoble infrastructure:

  • Decentralized Customer Support: Explore integration of customizable customer support functions directly within their dapps.
  • Friend List Management: Create custom friend lists where users can connect, share profiles and track each other's activity within dapps.
  • PvP Matchmaking: Implement matchmaking systems, allowing users to challenge friends or find opponents based on skill level or other criteria.
  • Live Chat Integration: Enable real-time communication in live gameplays or streams between players, spectators or community members.
  • DeFi/Swap: Allow users to discuss trading strategies or seek advice directly within a DeFi application.
  • OTC Trade: Users could negotiate terms and exchange information securely, potentially reducing counterparty risk.
  • And much more!

Roadmap and future plans

Last year Beoble secured $2 million in its Pre-Seed round. The impressive roster of investors included HashKey Capital, Digital Currency Group, GBV Capital, SamsungNext, Token Bay Capital and Momentum 6.

More recently DWF Ventures, Blockchain Founders Fund, Nomura Laser Digital and Cypher Capital have all made strategic investments into Beoble, bringing its raised total to $7 million.

The Beoble team indicates this fresh funding is earmarked for enhancing overall user experience and further refining the platform's feature-rich environment, signaling a commitment to continuous improvement and innovation.

Speaking of the raised capital, CEO Sung Cho reaffirmed the notion that "Beoble aims to cater to evolving needs of our Web3 community, ensuring a platform that's not only versatile and interactive but also future-ready."

He added: "Our recent seed round is a continued push of our vision to revolutionize Web3 communication by empowering everyone to interact securely and authentically. We aim to one day foster a connected world where every individual can engage and interact in a truly Web3 way."

Looking ahead, Beoble has an exciting roadmap for 2024 which promises to introduce a host of new features in Version 2.0. Notably it wants to create features focused on interoperability that will allow users to chat across all chains and dapps.

Enthusiasts of this project and new users can keep an eye on an upcoming Airdrop campaign – creating an exciting prospect for web social community engagement and growth.
